Hearing on Widmer motions will be held March 23

LEBANON, OH (FOX19) - Judge Neal Bronson is holding a hearing on March 23 to discuss the latest motions filed in the Ryan Widmer case.

Widmer was convicted last month of murdering his wife, Sarah, by drowning her the couple's bathtub.

Widmer's attorneys filed a motion last week for a new trial, claiming juror bias. They claim a juror told a friend, "Don't worry about the Widmer case, we have all talked about it and we know he is guilty. He (Ryan Widmer) is going to rot in hell."

The juror denies making the statement.

A few days later, Widmer's attorneys filed a motion for acquittal, saying prosecutors failed to prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt.

Prosecutors have until March 18 to respond to both motions.

The hearing will be held March 23 at 4 p.m. in Judge Bronson's common pleas courtroom.

Widmer is currently serving a 15 years to life sentence at the Correctional Reception Center in Orient.

Cash grab robbery caught on tape

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - A man was caught on video Wednesday morning during a cash-grab robbery at the Walgreens store at Boudinot Avenue and Glencrossing Way in Westwood.

The robbery happened at 4:11 a.m.  The suspect walked in, started a transaction, waited for the cashier to open the cash register drawer, then reached across the counter and grabbed money out of it.  As he pulled back with the money, the cashier grabbed him, but she could only get her hands on him for a second, as he pulled back and ran to the door.

Police say he fled to the back parking lot of the business next door, where someone was waiting for him in a dark SUV.  This was also caught on video tape.  He got into the passenger side of the SUV and it took off.

Police are asking anyone who knows about the people who did this or where they went to call Crimestoppers at 513-352-3040, or Detective Eric Carpenter at 513-263-8319.
